An indication for the surgery is diastema \u2013 a gap formed between upper ones of a size exceeding 2 mm which has not closed by itself after the emerging of permanent teeth (four incisors). This situation usually takes place around the age of 8 and affects a relatively small number of young patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In adults, the improper function of the frenum results in poor fitting of dentures and may interfere with dental braces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Considerable changes in the frenum (either too excessive or too short) often cause gums recession, which in turn results in the exposure of tooth necks and further changes, including falling out of teeth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and consists in cutting and tying the frenulum in the appropriate location in the patient\u2019s oral cavity.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Surgery of the frenum is usually performed in children.
